Nazirabad Fire Tragedy: 3 Dead Confirmed, un Official 8 Over 15 Missing

Kolkata: A massive fire broke out at a momo manufacturing warehouse in Nazirabad, Anandapur, late Sunday night around 1:30 am. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly one and a half days using 16 fire engines before bringing it fully under control on Tuesday.

According to official sources, three deaths have been confirmed so far. However, eight body parts were recovered from the burnt warehouse, raising fears that the death toll may increase.

Police said that families of at least 14 workers have filed missing complaints, and the total number of missing persons is believed to be more than 15.

Authorities will seek court permission on Wednesday to conduct DNA tests for identification of the recovered remains.

The warehouse owner, Gangadhar Das, has been detained from East Medinipur. Fire department officials stated that the factory had no valid fire safety clearance, lacked fire-fighting equipment, and had no emergency exit.

The state government has announced ₹10 lakh compensation for each deceased worker’s family. Police and fire department officials are continuing their investigation.

“Global Partnership or Economic Surrender? The Question Before Parliament”

The controversy surrounding the proposed trade agreement has raised a critical question: whether policy continuity is being maintained and whether national interest is being adequately safeguarded.
